Karen Morrison

Karen Morrison, a counselor at Rocinante High School, spoke with us today about the book group she is leading at the High School. Karen has selected books that deal with issues that the teens in the group encounter in everyday life and so they are more relatable. Karen gave us a lot of handouts on different books that can be used with children and teens to help them through tough times. Karen has an immense passion for reading and books and is really trying to instill that in the students she works with.

Connie Gotsch

Connie Gotsch spoke with us today about her book, Belle’s Star. When we first started out she lead us through the Hero’s Journey/Quest and told us what it was and how it is used in story writing. She had us pick examples of stories we all knew and figure out the different elements of the Hero’s Journey for that story. After we completed that she told us about her book and the two subsequent books she is writing to go along. She explained that she had a very hard time getting it published at first but that now it is a favorite amongst animal’s rights groups. All three stories sound exceptionally interesting and I may just have to add them to my reading list.
